All Cold Drawn
Cold drawn steel (also called cold rolled or cold finished) is produced by pulling hot rolled bars through a die at room temperature, which tightens dimensional tolerances, improves surface finish, and increases tensile strength. Ram Steelco stocks cold drawn flat bar, hexagon bar, round bar, square bar, and sheet at our Oregon locations.
The key advantage over hot rolled: cold drawn steel holds tighter tolerances (typically +/- 0.002" to 0.004" depending on size) with a cleaner, smoother surface — making it the right choice for machined parts, shafts, pins, bushings, fixture plates, and precision components.
Common grades include 1018 (general-purpose low carbon, excellent machinability), 12L14 (free-machining with lead), 1045 (medium carbon for higher strength), and 4140 (alloy steel for high-stress components). We saw-cut to length and offer processing services including laser cutting and precision plasma.
